The rock arch at Land's End is reachable only by water; pangas and glass-bottom taxis leave constantly from the Cabo San Lucas marina and from Médano beach. Landing at Playa del Amor depends on swell, and the Pacific side of the point is not swimmable.

The two dependable swimming-and-snorkelling bays on the corridor between the towns, both signposted off Highway 1 with public access and almost no services. Bring your own mask and shade.

Grey and humpback whales are in Los Cabos waters through the winter months, with boats leaving from the Cabo San Lucas marina and from Puerto Los Cabos in San José. Operators need a federal permit, so ask to see it before booking.

A cluster of galleries around Álvaro Obregón and Morelos in San José's old town. On Thursday evenings through the winter season they open late for the Art Walk and the streets are closed to cars.

Freshwater estuary where the arroyo meets the sea at the end of San José's hotel strip, with a walking path and a lot of birds. Free, best early in the morning, and the complete opposite of the resort corridor.
