Both sit at the main park gate on Lang'ata Road. The Safari Walk is a raised boardwalk over enclosures of rhino, cheetah, antelope and pygmy hippo, which works far better with small children than a game drive; the Orphanage next door holds rescued animals. The KWS Nairobi package covers the park, the orphanage and the walk for KSh 1,300 for East African citizens or USD 105 for non-residents. Pay by eCitizen; the gates do not take cash.

The wet-weather answer. On the fourth floor of the new wing there is the Ozone trampoline park (ages 5 and up, 10:00 to 22:00), Under The Sea indoor play for seven months to twelve years (10:00 to 21:00) and an 18-hole glow-in-the-dark mini golf course; Village Bowl is on the second floor. All open daily.

Reconstructed homesteads from around the country and a daily traditional dance and acrobatics show in a large covered arena, five minutes from the park gate. An hour and a half of drumming holds most children better than a museum does.

The Friends of Karura Race Series runs a 3 kilometre children's event alongside the adult 5 and 10 kilometre races, monthly through the year in Karura Forest Block A, gathering at Amani Gardens by the River Cafe car park. Entry covers forest access, parking and timing.

A working city forest off State House Road with wide paths, labelled trees, vervet and Sykes' monkeys, and lawns that fill with family picnics at weekends. Flat enough for a pushchair and close enough to the centre to fit into an afternoon.
