SPORT & SEASON
Mombasa does have a top-flight football club — Bandari, the port team — but the city's real sporting life is on the water: two monsoon wind seasons make the south coast one of East Africa's better kitesurfing spots, and the reef offshore is a marine park.

Bandari FC at Mbaraki Sports Club
The port authority's club and Mombasa's side in the Kenyan top flight, playing home matches at Mbaraki Sports Club on the island. The club site carries the fixture list; it does not sell tickets online, so check locally for match-day arrangements.
Kitesurfing at Galu Beach with H2O Extreme
An IKO-certified school at the Blue Marlin Beach Hotel on Galu, open daily 09:00–18:00, teaching kitesurfing along with wing foiling, windsurfing and SUP. Two wind seasons: the Kaskazi from December to March and the Kuzi from mid-June to early September, with beginner shore-break surf in the second.
Diving the north-coast reef
Tropical Diving Kenya operates out of the Kenya Bay Beach Hotel on the north coast and runs reef dives and courses off Bamburi and the Mombasa marine park water. Visibility is best outside the long rains, roughly October to March.
Nyali Golf & Country Club
An 18-hole course just north of the island, playable by visitors on a green fee arranged with the club by phone or email rather than booked online. Bring your own clubs or ask about hire when you call.
Mombasa Sports Club
The island's old multi-sport club, still the centre of coastal cricket and rugby and also running squash and snooker. It has no website of its own — turn up at the ground and ask at reception what is on that weekend.
