Lake Nakuru National Park is fenced game country with no sport of any kind inside it. Organised sport happens in Nakuru town outside the gates, and the nearest big-city professional sport is in Nairobi, about three hours away on the A104.

Nakuru sits high in the Rift Valley, but Kenya's distance-running town is Iten, up in the highlands to the north-west, not here. In Nakuru itself you run on town roads; inside the park you do not run at all.

Lake Elmenteita Serena Camp runs rides along the lakeshore inside Soysambu Conservancy, plus guided nature walks through the acacia thickets. It is the nearest you will get to being on foot or on a horse in this part of the Rift.

You cannot cycle in Lake Nakuru. Hell's Gate, an hour south at Naivasha, is one of the very few Kenyan parks where you legally can, and it is the standard day out for anyone who wants to be under their own power.

Nakuru is a shallow alkaline soda lake inside a game park — nobody swims in it and there is no boating. The nearest water you can actually get onto is Lake Naivasha, an hour south.
