EAT LIKE A LOCAL
Amboseli is lodge-catering country: there is nothing to eat inside the park, and Kimana town outside the eastern gate is the only real alternative.
Ol Tukai Lodge
In the middle of the park with the dining room looking out over the marsh, plus a pool bar and a bar built around the elephant theme. They also run set-piece meals — bush and gala dinners, and a champagne breakfast up at Observation Hill.

Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge
Also inside the park: buffet breakfast and lunch, à la carte dinner, bush breakfasts brought out after a morning drive, and a six-course barbecue under the stars with Maasai dancing. Children get their own menu and an early 6.30pm sitting.

Kimana town, on the C102
The trading centre east of the park, roughly 80km along the C102 from Emali. Dukas, butchers and roadside nyama choma, and the last place to buy anything at all before Kimana Gate.

Nowhere to eat inside the park
The habit to plan around: no kiosks, no shops and no restaurants inside Amboseli, and Observation Hill is the only place you may get out of the vehicle. Lodge rates almost always include meals, and kitchens will make up a lunch box for a full-day drive if you ask the night before.
