THINGS TO DO
The things worth doing in Wadi Rum, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
Red desert floor and sandstone mountains of Wadi Rum under blue sky
Camel trek
Slower and far quieter than a jeep, sold by the hour or as a sunset ride out to a dune. Bedouin-owned, like everything in the reserve.
Rock climbing
A long-established sandstone climbing destination, with Bedouin guides leading most of the classic lines. Bring your own rack or arrange it well in advance.
Walk instead of drive
Half-day scrambles through the narrow canyons between the jebels. Ask your camp for a walking guide rather than a driver, and expect to pay more for it.
Lawrence's Spring and Lawrence's House
Two standard jeep stops, both only thinly attached to T.E. Lawrence. The spring is a real scramble; the house is a low ruin with a very good view.
Um Fruth rock bridge
A short free-climb onto a natural arch a few metres above the sand. Everybody does it and the photograph is the point.
