SPORT & SEASON
A climbing and desert-running destination with no club and no stadium anywhere near it: the calendar here is two big races and whatever the camel track is doing.

Ultra X Jordan
A five-stage, 220km multi-day ultra across Wadi Rum with 2,522m of climb, plus a 110km Jordan Challenge aimed at walkers and first-timers on the same course. 28 September to 2 October in 2026, with desert camps between stages.
Wadi Rum Full Moon Ultra Marathon
TREKS run this around the May full moon with 5km, 10km, 21km and 50km entries; the 5km is a guided walk rather than a race. Entries can be bought on their own or as part of a package with transport and a camp.
Jordan Trail: Wadi Rum to the Red Sea
The trail's final region, 112km over six days along old shepherd paths from the jebels down to Aqaba, dropping 2,755m. Remote, with almost no public transport and few water sources; the association pushes hard for a local guide.
Camel racing
The tourist board lists camel racing at a dedicated track in the Wadi Rum area. It runs on local Bedouin timetables rather than a published tourist schedule, so ask your camp whether anything is on while you are there.
No club football anywhere near
The ten teams of the Jordanian Pro League play in Amman, Irbid, Salt and Mafraq. Aqaba, an hour south, has no top-division side, and the nearest league ground to Rum is a four-hour drive to Amman.
