Where Petra goes after dark — bars, live music and the late ones worth staying up for.
Petra by Night
Sunday to Thursday, 8.30pm to 10.30pm, candles through the Siq to the Treasury. 30 JD on top of a day ticket or Jordan Pass; under-10s free.
The Cave Bar
Set in a Nabataean rock-cut tomb at the Petra Guest House by the gate. Open 2pm to midnight, and later on busy summer nights.
Hotel terraces in Wadi Musa
Licensed hotel bars are where the alcohol is. Most restaurants along the main street are dry, and the town is quiet by ten.
Stargazing above the hotels
Wadi Musa sits high and dry, and the sky clears of light within a few streets. Cold after dark even in spring.
An early night
The gate opens at 6am and the Monastery is a long climb. Most visitors eat at eight and are asleep by ten.
