Entry is 50 JD for one day, 55 for two and 60 for three if you are sleeping in Jordan. Add water, a cheap dinner on Tourism Street and a bed in upper Wadi Musa and a first full day realistically lands at 65-80 JD.

The rate for visitors not staying a night in Jordan is 90 JD against 50. One cheap night in Wadi Musa saves you forty dinars, which is more than the room costs.

70 JD covers one Petra day, 75 covers two and 80 covers three, plus 40-odd other sites and the tourist visa fee if you buy before you arrive. Since Petra alone is 50, the pass is ahead from your second site onwards.

Dana to Petra is 72.4km over four days, past Feynan's copper mines and the Araba valley, and National Geographic put it among the world's fifteen best hikes. You still pay full entry at the park boundary.

JETT runs scheduled services linking Amman, Petra and Wadi Rum, and booking on the operator's own site is cheaper than the hotel desk. A shared taxi only wins if you can fill it.
