THINGS TO DO
The things worth doing in Jerash, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
Colonnade ringing the Oval Plaza of the Roman ruins at Jerash
Roman Army and Chariot Experience
Legionaries in formation, gladiators and chariot races staged in the hippodrome by a private operator. Schedules change, so confirm it is running before building a day around it.
The Temple of Artemis
The city's main sanctuary, up a monumental stairway from the colonnaded street, and the grandest single thing standing at Jerash.
The North Theatre
Smaller and later than the south, extended to about 1,600 seats by 235 AD, and usually completely empty.
Jerash Archaeological Museum
Opened in 1923 and moved to its present building in 1985. Included in the site ticket and takes about half an hour.
Walk the full circuit
Most visitors turn back at the north tetrapylon. Carrying on to the north gate and the churches on the western slope adds an hour, and you get them to yourself.
