SPORT & SEASON
Jerash's famous sport is a 2,000-year-old chariot track; the living clubs are all in Irbid and Amman, and the real outdoor season here is the wet, green northern winter and spring.

Nearest top-flight football: Irbid
Jerash has no top-division club. Al-Hussein and Al-Ramtha both play in the ten-team Jordanian Pro League at Al-Hassan Stadium in Irbid, about 40km north, which is the closest league football to the site.
Amman's big two, an hour south
Al-Faisaly play at Amman International Stadium and Al-Wehdat at King Abdullah Stadium; the meeting of the two is the fixture of the Jordanian season. Al-Ahli, Al-Jazeera and Shabab Al-Ordon share the same grounds.
Jordan Trail, northern region
Um Qais to Ajloun is the trail's greenest section: 78.2km over four days, 3,430m of ascent, running from below sea level in the Jordan Valley up to 958m through oak forest and past Tel Mar Elias.
Ajloun Forest Reserve trails
Marked routes from short loops to full days, priced 5-32 JD a head according to length and nationality. The Roe Deer trail comes free with a cabin booking, which is the cheapest walking in northern Jordan.
The season here is late winter and spring
This is the wettest, greenest corner of Jordan and the Jordan Trail Association names March and April as the best months for the northern regions. What is punishing in July is the whole point in March.
