Basketball is the island obsession, with baseball camps in February and dragon boats in early summer.
Ryukyu Golden Kings
B.League basketball at the purpose-built Okinawa Arena in Okinawa City, season running October to May. The loudest regular crowd in Japanese basketball.
FC Ryukyu
J.League football at Tapic Kenso Hiyagon Stadium, with the season running roughly February to December. Small crowds, cheap seats, easy to get to by bus.
February baseball camps
Several Nippon Professional Baseball clubs hold pre-season camps across the island through February, and watching training is free or close to it.
Haarii and the tug-of-war
Dragon boat races are rowed at Naha and Itoman in early summer; the Naha Great Tug-of-War hauls an enormous rope through the city in October.
