No sumo hall and no baseball team, but Kyoto's sporting calendar leans on archery and football.
Kyoto Sanga FC
J.League football at Sanga Stadium by Kyocera in Kameoka, thirty minutes out on the JR line. The season runs roughly February to December.
Sumo, one city over
Kyoto hosts no tournament: the six basho fall in Tokyo in January, May and September, Osaka in March, Nagoya in July, Fukuoka in November.
Toshiya at Sanjusangendo
In January, newly adult archers shoot the length of the 120-metre hall in kimono. Free to watch from the grounds, and heaving.
Kyoto Marathon
A winter road race in February that loops past several World Heritage temples; entry is by lottery, but the roadside is open to anyone.
