THINGS TO DO
Positano is a village stacked down a cliff, so most of a day here is walking down to the water and climbing back up; the boat trips and the ridge footpath are what make it worth more than an afternoon.
Spiaggia Grande
The main beach directly below the town, with a free public strip in the middle and paid sunbed concessions either side. The ferry and excursion-boat jetty is at the eastern end, and the walk back up to the road is a long flight of steps whichever route you take.
Sentiero degli Dei
The ridge path from Bomerano, above Agerola, to Nocelle, roughly 8 km of mostly level walking high above the coast, followed by a long stone stairway down into Positano. Take the SITA bus up to Bomerano and walk back down; doing it in reverse means climbing the stairs.
Spiaggia del Fornillo
The second beach, reached on foot from Spiaggia Grande along the Via Positanesi d'America, a cliff walkway past the Saracen towers. No road access, so it is quieter than the main beach and the walk takes about ten minutes.
Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta and the Roman villa
The majolica-tiled dome is the building everyone photographs and the church itself is free to enter. Underneath it is a Roman villa buried by the eruption of AD 79, excavated and opened as a small museum visited on a guided timed route; buy at the door or book ahead in summer.

Boat along the coast and out to Li Galli
Excursion boats and water taxis leave from the jetty on Spiaggia Grande for the Li Galli islets, the coves you cannot reach on foot, and scheduled ferries run to Amalfi, Sorrento and Capri through the season, roughly April to October. It is also the fastest way out of Positano in summer traffic.
