Steps everywhere and pebble beaches — the Amalfi Coast works with children who can walk and swim.
Spiaggia Grande and Fornillo
Positano's two beaches: Grande is pebbly and busy, Fornillo quieter and reached by a cliff path. Clear water that deepens quickly. Ages 5+.
Wooden gozzo boat trips
Small boats leave the jetty for swimming stops, sea caves and Li Galli, from two hours to a full day. Mornings are calmer. Ages 4+.
Grotta dello Smeraldo
A flooded sea cave near Amalfi, entered by lift and then a rowing boat; ten minutes inside, and it shuts in any swell. Ages 5+.
Pompeii day trip
An hour away by bus and train. The ruins are vast and shadeless, so pick the amphitheatre, a bakery and the plaster casts and leave. Ages 7+.
Steps, not strollers
Positano is several hundred steps top to bottom with no road through the middle, so carriers only. Restaurants serve from seven and welcome children.
