ON A BUDGET
The Amalfi Coast is not built for budgets, but the ferry, the footpaths and the towns above it are.
Praiano and Amalfi beds
Positano has almost no cheap rooms. Hostels and small B&Bs sit in Praiano, Amalfi and Salerno, all on the same bus and ferry line.
What a day costs
A dorm or cheap room runs €35–60, pizza and a beer €15–20, bus tickets a few euros. Reckon €65–110 a day, roughly $70–120.
Getting around cheap
SITA Sud buses run the coast road and take tickets bought in advance from tabacchi; summer ferries from Salerno and Sorrento are faster and barely dearer.
Free by day
The Sentiero degli Dei from Bomerano to Nocelle, the free section of Positano's Spiaggia Grande, and the Valle delle Ferriere walk above Amalfi.
Spiaggia Grande
The free end of Positano's main beach, past the paid loungers, is where hikers and hostel groups end the day; the bar at Nocelle serves the same purpose.
