SPORT & SEASON
Naples is a one-club city and it shows — but there is EuroCup basketball at the PalaBarbuto, a trotting track at Agnano, and a water polo club at Posillipo that has won more than most Italian football teams.

SSC Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona
Serie A at Fuorigrotta, reached on Line 2 to Campi Flegrei or the Cumana to Mostra. Tickets are sold through the club's own channels and are name-matched to ID at the gate; the Curve sell out first and away-fan restrictions by region are common, so read the conditions before buying.
Napoli Basketball at the PalaBarbuto
The city's Serie A basketball club, playing at the municipal arena in Fuorigrotta a few hundred metres from the football stadium. Tickets are cheap and available late, the season runs autumn to spring, and it is the easiest live sport to get into in Naples at short notice.
Napoli City Half Marathon
A February half marathon organised by ASD Napoli Running, run largely along the seafront and through the centre, with a shorter family event alongside it. Entries open months ahead on the organiser's site and it is the one big participation race in the city calendar.
Ippodromo di Agnano
The racecourse in the Campi Flegrei crater west of the city, which has been the home of Italian trotting since 1935 and still holds regular meetings. Cheap, local and low-key, and easy to combine with the volcanic ground and thermal springs around Agnano.
Circolo Nautico Posillipo
Naples is a water polo city, and Posillipo — founded in 1925, based on the rocks below Posillipo — is the club that made it one, with a long record in Italian and European competition. Home games are played in the pool at Scandone in Fuorigrotta and tickets are inexpensive.
