THINGS TO DO
The things worth doing in Milan, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
The Gothic marble facade of Milan Cathedral
Castello Sforzesco
The Sforza fortress, free to walk into, holding Michelangelo's last and unfinished sculpture along with several museums under one ticket.
Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia
The largest science museum in Italy, built around Leonardo's machines, with the submarine Enrico Toti parked outside and open to visits.
San Siro stadium
The ground shared by Milan and Inter, with a museum and tour on non-match days. Getting a ticket to an actual derby is a different and harder problem.
Fondazione Prada
A former distillery reworked by Rem Koolhaas, with a gold-leafed tower and Bar Luce, a café designed by Wes Anderson to look like a 1950s Milanese bar.
Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio
Milan's other great church: an eleventh-century Romanesque basilica with a colonnaded atrium, the city's patron saint in the crypt and no queue at all.
