THINGS TO DO
The things worth doing in Amalfi Coast, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
Positano's pastel houses stacked down the cliffside
Museo della Carta, Amalfi
A working paper mill in a thirteenth-century building up the valley behind Amalfi, with water-driven hammers still turning rag into sheets.
Valle delle Ferriere
A shaded ravine walk above Amalfi through ruined ironworks and rare ferns, with waterfalls and a fraction of the coastal path's traffic.
Cetara
A fishing village that still lands anchovies and makes colatura, the fermented anchovy sauce descended from Roman garum. Eat it on spaghetti at lunchtime.
Grotta dello Smeraldo
A flooded sea cave near Conca dei Marini lit an unnatural green by refracted light, reached by lift from the road or by boat from Amalfi.
Minori and the Roman villa
A first-century seaside villa with mosaics, under the town of Minori, and a lemon-terrace path up the hill above it.
