A COSTIERASITA bus ticket is €10 for 24 hours of unlimited SITA travel. Boats from Amalfi: Atrani €3, Minori or Maiori €5, Positano €10; Salerno–Amalfi is €12. The Arsenale museum is €3. Moving around costs very little — it is the bed that empties your account.

Valid 24 hours from first validation, unlimited SITA SUD journeys across twenty comuni from Massa Lubrense to Vietri sul Mare, Ravello and Positano included. It is personal — you write your name and date of birth on it — and you must validate it, by hand if the machine is broken.

Hostel beds and private rooms on Piazza Umberto I in Atrani, ten minutes on foot from Amalfi through the tunnel, two minutes from the bus stop. Just about the only genuinely cheap bed on this stretch of coast, so it books out months ahead for July and August.

Travelmar does Salerno–Amalfi in 35 minutes for €12, where the bus takes twice that in July, and Amalfi–Positano in 25 minutes for €10. The catch is that boats cancel in swell, so check the return sailings before you commit and keep the bus times as a fallback.

Loungers on Amalfi's Marina Grande are rented by the day. Walk 1.5 kilometres west instead and down about four hundred steps to Duoglio: pebbles, reef, clear water and no charge, with small boats running on from there to coves you cannot reach on foot.
