Mandalika Circuit
The purpose-built street circuit near Kuta hosts world championship motorcycle racing, with grandstand tickets far cheaper than the European rounds. Race weekends fall in the second half of the year.
Surf seasons, south and west
Gerupuk and Selong Belanak work most of the year for beginners; Desert Point on the southwest tip needs the dry-season swell, roughly May to September, and real skill.
Peresean stick fighting
Sasak duels fought bare-chested with rattan canes and rawhide shields, staged at village festivals and harvest celebrations through the dry season.
Rinjani trekking season
The national park's routes open roughly April to December and close for the rains; two- and three-day treks start from Senaru and Sembalun.
