Sea temple on a rock off the Tabanan coast, best at low tide and around sunset when you can walk out to the base. Entry is IDR 75,000 for foreign adults and IDR 40,000 for foreign children, plus IDR 5,000 to park a car.

Forest and temple complex in the middle of Ubud, open 09:00–18:00 with last entry at 17:00. The long-tailed macaques will take loose sunglasses, bottles and bags, so carry nothing in your hands.

Museum on Jl. Raya Pengosekan holding more than 200 paintings across two buildings in a six-hectare garden, with a restaurant and cultural performances on site. A good wet-afternoon option and far quieter than central Ubud.

Around two hours up an active volcano in the dark for sunrise over the caldera and Lake Batur, starting with a pickup near 02:00 from south Bali. Trips run through local guide operators based around Toya Bungkah; it is cold at the top and the descent is loose scree, so bring a layer and real shoes.
