Food along this road is hotel dining rooms and one brewpub, spaced at whatever distance the villages happen to sit — which means planning lunch rather than assuming it.
Smiðjan brugghús, Vík
Sunnubraut 15: a microbrewery and restaurant running since 2017, doing thick burgers, wings and ribs cooked in their own milk stout, with 30–45 minute brewery tours if you book ahead. Reliably the busiest room in the village, so eat early or late.

Midgard, Hvolsvöllur
The restaurant attached to Midgard Base Camp, cooking Icelandic home food from producers in the surrounding district. It is the reason a fair number of people stop in Hvolsvöllur rather than driving straight through it.

Kjarr, Kirkjubæjarklaustur
Opened in June 2022 beside the waterfall Systrafoss at the edge of the village. It is the last proper kitchen for a long stretch east, which matters more here than any particular dish on the menu does.

Petrol-station grills, and where the last supermarket is
Between the villages the choice is the fuel-stop grill, and on this road that is a genuine fallback rather than a joke. Selfoss and Hvolsvöllur have the last full supermarkets going east; past Kirkjubæjarklaustur assume nothing is open and carry a day's food.
