Snæfellsjökull National Park
The only Icelandic national park that runs down to the sea, wrapped around the glacier-capped volcano Jules Verne used as his way into the centre of the earth. Visitor centres at Malarrif and Hellissandur.
Bjarnarhöfn shark museum
A working farm that still cures hákarl the old way, with a small museum, a tasting and a straight explanation of why it smells like that. Family-run, and they do not oversell it.

Breiðafjörður island cruise
Out of Stykkishólmur into a bay with more islands than anyone has counted, with sea eagles, puffins in season, and a dredge hauled up so you can eat scallops raw off the deck.

Rauðfeldsgjá
A narrow cleft split into the hillside above Arnarstapi that you can wade a short way up. Wet feet are certain; take grippy shoes and do not push past where it gets technical.
Gerðuberg cliffs
A wall of hexagonal basalt columns standing in a field just off Route 54, free, unfenced and usually completely deserted.
