The glacier-capped volcano at the tip is walked in summer with a guide as far as the saddle below the summit; the true top is technical ice climbing. The icecap has gone from about 16 km² in 1946 to 10–11 km² by 2008, and the summit was bare for the first recorded time in August 2012. Not a casual afternoon.

The island tours from Smiðjustígur 3 in Stykkishólmur thread out through the fjord's rock faces and skerries and pull the catch up on deck. Weather decides more than the timetable does, so keep the day flexible.

A small-town course immediately beside the Aðalgata campsite, which is about as convenient as golf gets anywhere. Short season, and the wind rather than the bunkers is the hazard.

A low hill just outside town, the burial place of the saga figure Guðrún Ósvífursdóttir, giving the whole of Breiðafjörður for a walk measured in minutes rather than hours. The obvious way to break up a day of driving the loop.

No club on Snæfellsnes plays in Iceland's top division and the nearest Besta deild ground is a couple of hours away in the capital area. What the towns have instead is a pitch, a sports hall and a pool each, and visitors are welcome to use the last of those.
