EAT LIKE A LOCAL
Eating on Snæfellsnes means the three north-coast harbour towns; the rest of the loop is a seasonal café, a petrol station and a lot of nothing.
Stykkishólmur's two kitchens
Sjávarpakkhúsið at Hafnargata 2 and Narfeyrarstofa at Aðalgata 3, a couple of minutes apart near the harbour. Narfeyrarstofa builds its menu on fish, lamb and Breiðafjörður blue mussels; both are small and both fill in July, so book rather than wander in.

Bjargarsteinn House of Food, Grundarfjörður
Sólvellir 15, in a restored house from 1908 looking out over the water. It is the reason a lot of people stop in Grundarfjörður at all, and it is small enough that turning up without a reservation is a gamble.

Fjöruhúsið at Hellnar
A small café down on the shore below the village doing home baking and fish soup, and the only thing resembling a kitchen on that stretch of the south coast. It is seasonal — check it is open before you commit to the drive round.

Breiðafjörður mussels, and where the shops are
Blue mussels off the fjord and the day's landed fish are what to order here rather than anything trucked in from Reykjavík. Groceries and fuel exist in Stykkishólmur, Grundarfjörður and Ólafsvík and essentially nowhere else on the loop, so plan the day round that and carry lunch.
