Where Golden Circle goes after dark — bars, live music and the late ones worth staying up for.
There is no nightlife out here
Selfoss has a couple of bars and Laugarvatn has a hotel one. Everything else shuts around nine. Build the evening around hot water and the sky, not around a bar.
Northern lights at Þingvellir
The rift is dark, forty minutes off the city's light dome, and the park does not close at night. September to April, on a clear evening with the forecast up.
Secret Lagoon after dark
Flúðir's pool dates from 1891 and sits at 38 to 40°C all year. Adults 4,500 ISK, open until 7pm from October to May and 8pm in summer. The steam and the dark do the rest.
Laugarvatn Fontana
Steam rooms built directly over a geothermal vent at the lake edge, with steps down into cold water. The rye bread baked in the black sand outside is the local party trick and they will show you it being dug up.
Midnight sun on the loop
In June the light never really goes. Drive the circle backwards at ten at night and you can have Gullfoss and Geysir close to yourself.
