SPORT & SEASON
There is no professional sport in Szentendre at all: what the town offers is the flat Danube bank for running and cycling, and a fast train to Budapest for anyone who wants to watch something.

No top-flight club here
Szentendre has no side in the Hungarian NB I. The nearest first-division football is in Budapest — Ferencváros and Újpest are both in the 2026-27 top flight — and it is about an hour door to door on the H5 and the metro.
Run or ride the river road north
The Danube bank north out of town towards Leányfalu is flat, signed and used by locals for exactly this. Carrying on to Visegrád makes a there-and-back of a bit over twenty kilometres each way.
The climb at Visegrád
The path from the river up to the citadel is the nearest thing to a hill session in the Danube Bend: short, steep and rewarded with the view down the curve of the river. Do it early, before the castle traffic.
Don't swim in the Danube
This is a working river with barge traffic and real current, and the bank at Szentendre is for walking and cycling, not swimming. The swimming is in Budapest's pools and baths, or an hour and a half away at Balaton.
It is a spring-to-autumn town
Everything active here happens outdoors between April and October; in winter the promenade is empty, the galleries cut their hours and there is no indoor sport to fall back on. Plan accordingly rather than arriving in January expecting a programme.
