SPORT & SEASON
Hamburg is a two-club football city with a genuine rivalry, and outside football its calendar is built on endurance events — a spring marathon and an August road race that closes the city.

Hamburger SV, Volksparkstadion
Bundesliga football in the west of the city, reachable on the S-Bahn to Stellingen and a walk through the Volkspark. The club and the ground are the establishment half of Hamburg football; tickets are easier to come by than at St. Pauli.
FC St. Pauli, Millerntor-Stadion
Currently in the 2. Bundesliga, in a ground wedged into St. Pauli beside the Heiligengeistfeld — you walk to it from the Reeperbahn. Among the hardest tickets in German football because members take almost all of them, so try well in advance or accept watching in a bar nearby.
Haspa Marathon Hamburg
Germany's biggest spring marathon; the 41st edition is on 25 April 2027, and the half marathon and relay usually sell out long before the full distance does. The course is marked with a blue line painted on the road, which stays visible around the city all year.
ADAC Cyclassics
A one-day UCI WorldTour race in August — 16 August in 2026 — over 205 km from Buxtehude to a finish on the Mönckebergstraße, with 18 WorldTeams on the start line. Amateur rides on the same closed roads run alongside it, plus a kids' race.
Veolia Towers Hamburg
The city's basketball club, playing easyCredit BBL and EuroCup games at the 4,000-seat Inselpark Arena in Wilhelmsburg, with the biggest fixtures moved to the Barclays Arena — 12,015 watched them beat Bayern there in April 2025. Winter's most reliable ticket in Hamburg.
