SPORT & SEASON
A Ligue 1 club stranded out at Décines, a Top 14 club still inside the city, and a running calendar that uses the hills and staircases as the obstacle.

Olympique Lyonnais at the Groupama Stadium
OL left Gerland in January 2016 for a 59,186-seat stadium at Décines-Charpieu, on the eastern edge of the metropolis rather than in the city itself. It is a long way out, so work out the transport before kick-off rather than after the final whistle.
LOU Rugby at Matmut Stadium Gerland
The Top 14 club plays at 353 avenue Jean Jaurès in Lyon 7, capacity 35,052, on metro line B at Stade de Gerland — inside the city, unlike the football. Tickets bought at the window on the day cost €2 more than the same seat bought online.
LDLC ASVEL at the Astroballe
The Betclic Élite basketball club plays league games at the Astroballe, 44 avenue Marcel Cerdan in Villeurbanne, and moves its EuroLeague nights to the larger LDLC Arena at Décines, which opened in November 2023 and holds 12,523 for basketball. Reduced rates for students and under-25s with ID.
Lyon Urban Trail
A race up and down the city's staircases on 28 March 2026, over 12, 18, 28 and 38km plus a 12km walking version, finishing at Place Saint-Jean in Vieux Lyon. Starts go in waves of 500 every five minutes and everyone has to be in by 5pm.
LUT by Night
The same organisers' night edition, 1 November 2026, over 10, 20 and 30km starting from the Roman site on Fourvière and working through Saint-Jean and the slopes of the right bank of the Saône. It filled its 9,000 places two months early in 2025.
