Sixty rue Saint-Jean in Vieux Lyon, holding over a thousand film props — Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park — alongside a thousand miniature scenes. 10am–6.30pm on weekdays, from 1.30pm on Tuesdays, to 7pm at weekends and in school holidays. €22.90 adults, €17.90 children, €55 for a family of four.

Guignol is a Lyon invention, and this theatre at 2 rue Louis Carrand has been going since 1966 with a working collection of 260 traditional hand puppets. Shows for children, separate satirical ones for adults, and puppet-handling workshops at weekends.

The F1 and F2 climb inside Fourvière hill from Vieux Lyon metro station and are part of the ordinary TCL network, so a €2.10 ticket covers one. It is the cheapest thing in the city that children will ask to do a second time.

Most of the paid attractions sell a family ticket worth doing the sums on. The aquarium is €53 for two adults and two children against €64 bought singly, and the Musée Cinéma et Miniature is €55 for four rather than €81. Neither is advertised loudly at the desk.
