The things worth doing in Chamonix, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
Paragliding off Planpraz
Tandem flights launch from the Brévent lift stations and land on the valley floor. Weather-dependent, and usually booked the same morning.
Musée Alpin
The valley's climbing history, from the first ascent of Mont Blanc onwards, in the old Chamonix Palace building.
Glacier des Bossons
The most accessible glacier tongue in the valley, reached by chairlift from Les Bossons and then a short walk.
Le Tour
The top of the valley near the Swiss border, with a gondola up and easy high walking on the Balme side.
Valley cycle path
A near-flat route runs the length of the valley beside the Arve, linking the villages and every train station.
