SPORT & SEASON
Rugby is the top-flight sport here — the football club is three divisions below the stadium that was built for it.

Union Bordeaux-Bègles
The city's Top 14 rugby club, playing at the Stade Chaban-Delmas on Place Johnston, capacity 34,098. The 2026-27 season opens at home to Racing 92 on 5 September 2026, and the ground is a walk west of the centre rather than out on the ring road.
Girondins de Bordeaux, and how far they fell
Financial collapse cost the Girondins their professional status in 2024 and dropped them into the amateur divisions, where they spent two seasons in the fourth-tier National 2. The club's own ticketing now lists home matches in third-tier National 1 at the 42,115-seat Stade Atlantique, which carried the Matmut name until 2025.
Stade Sainte-Germaine, Le Bouscat
A 5,000-capacity municipal ground at 2 rue Ferdinand de Lesseps in Le Bouscat, where the Girondins played out their National 2 seasons and where Stade Bordelais play National 3. Local football at local prices, ten minutes north-west of the centre.
Marathon de Bordeaux
Back on 8 November 2026 after a seven-year gap, with a marathon, a half and a 10km through the centre and more than 27,000 runners expected. Cut-offs are 5h30 for the marathon, 3h for the half and 1h30 for the 10km; entries open in stages from late May.
Caraïbos Lacanau Pro
A World Surf League Qualifying Series 2,000 event on the beach at Lacanau-Océan, 8–14 July 2026 for its 45th edition, with skate contests, concerts and beach clean-ups running alongside the heats and a children's contest on 5–6 July. The TransGironde 421 coach gets you there from Bordeaux.
