The medieval castle at the mouth of the Aurajoki, Linnankatu 80. Open Tue-Sun 10-17 with last entry 30 minutes before closing; 18 euros for adults, 9 reduced and 8 for ages 7-15, and the Museum Card is accepted. About 3 km downriver from the centre, walkable along the water.

Archaeology and contemporary art in one building at Itäinen Rantakatu 4-6: excavated medieval streets in the basement, changing contemporary shows in the 1928 Rettig palace above. Open daily 11-18; 20 euros for the whole museum or 14 for one half.

The national maritime museum and Finnish Navy museum at Linnankatu 72, with two tall ships, four naval vessels and smaller boats. Tickets 16 / 10 / 5 euros or Museum Card; note the exhibitions run year-round but the museum ships are only boardable in summer.

An open-air quarter of the city's oldest surviving wooden houses at Vartiovuorenkatu 2, left standing after the 1827 fire. Tue-Sun 10-17, last admission 30 minutes before closing; 12 euros adults, 6 reduced, 5 for ages 7-15, free with a Museum Card.

A free three-minute crossing of the Aurajoki between Tervahovinkatu and Wechterinkuja, running 6:15-23:00 from 1 May to Turku Day and 6:15-21:00 the rest of the year. In service since 1904 and electric since 2017, it is the oldest vehicle in daily professional service in Finland.
