WITH KIDS
A lakeside amusement park, the Moomins in a basement, and public saunas that welcome children.
Red brick mills along the Tammerkoski rapids
Särkänniemi amusement park
An amusement park on the lake with an aquarium, a planetarium and the Näsinneula observation tower. The main season is May to August; height limits apply.
Moomin Museum
The original Tove Jansson illustrations and a five-storey Moominhouse model, in the basement of Tampere Hall. Quiet, careful, best from about four.
Rauhaniemi sauna
A lakeside public sauna costing a few euros to enter, with steps into the water and a beach beside it. Children are normal here; keep sessions short.
Pyynikki ridge
The world's highest gravel esker, with forest paths, an observation tower and a café whose doughnuts are the actual reason people climb it.
Sauna with children
Sit on the lower bench, keep it to a few minutes and cool off often. Prams travel free on Nysse, and the boat to Viikinsaari makes an easy picnic day.
