Hämeenkatu and Finlayson
Beds sit along the main street and around the converted Finlayson mill, minutes from the station and the rapids that run through the middle of town.
What a day costs
EUR 50–85: dorm 25–40, food 15–25 using lunch buffets, and a public sauna entry from a handful of euros. Transport is barely needed.
Nysse buses and the tram
One cheap ticket covers the tram and buses, trains reach Helsinki in around ninety minutes, and lake boats run to the islands in summer.
Free by day
The Pyynikki ridge trails between the lakes, the Tammerkoski rapids walk through the old mills, and Hatanpää's arboretum and rose garden.
Finlayson courtyards
The old cotton mill's yards and bars, plus the pubs along Hämeenkatu, draw a student crowd; a public sauna is a more Finnish way to meet people.
