Porvoo has guesthouses and a summer campsite at Kokonniemi but little cheap accommodation; most travellers keep a Helsinki bed and come out for the day.

Coaches from Kamppi
Buses leave Helsinki's Kamppi terminal several times an hour and take about an hour. In summer a historic steamboat makes the trip in three and a half.
Free by day
The red shore houses along the river, the cobbled lanes of the old town, the cathedral hill and the woods and shoreline at Kokonniemi.
The old bridge
Day-trippers converge at the wooden bridge for the view of the shore houses; the riverside terraces just upstream are where they stay for the afternoon.
