FIESTA SIDE
Helsinki's night splits in two: beer halls and rock bars in the grid of the centre, and cheaper, later, scruffier rooms in Kallio across the Pitkäsilta bridge.
Helsinki Cathedral above the harbour
Bar Loose
Garage-rock bar at Annankatu 21 with a bar upstairs and Club Loose downstairs, running live music four to five nights a week from rock and pop to jazz and death metal. Open Wed-Thu 17-02 and Fri-Sat 17-04:30, with a large terrace that closes at 02.
Kuudes Linja
Concert venue and club at Hämeentie 13, entered from the courtyard at Kaikukatu 4. Gig doors are usually 19:00 and K-18; the late club nights run roughly 23:15-04:30 and are K-20, covering grime, electronic, reggae and queer club music.
Siltanen
Same Hämeentie 13 block as Kuudes Linja but a separate room: bar, restaurant and club with something on most nights, plus a Sushi-San izakaya inside. Open Wed-Thu 17-02, Fri-Sat 17-03, Sun 19-03, closed Monday and Tuesday.
Helsinki Bryggeri Brewhouse
Brewpub in the Torikorttelit quarter at Sofiankatu 2, pouring beer brewed on the premises. Late for a restaurant: Wed-Fri from 12 until 03, Sat from 11 until 03, with the kitchen stopping around 23. Dogs allowed.
Kallio, on foot
The district north of the Pitkäsilta bridge is where a Helsinki night gets affordable. Hämeentie and the streets off it hold most of the late bars and clubs within a few blocks of each other, so you walk rather than pay for taxis between them.
