Korkeasaari Zoo
A zoo spread across a rocky island, reached by summer ferry or bus, with a strong cold-climate collection. Half a day, and plenty of walking.
Heureka science centre
A science centre in Vantaa with a rat basketball court, a physics playground and a planetarium. Twenty minutes by commuter train, best for five to fourteen.
Suomenlinna sea fortress
Tunnels, cannons, a submarine and grass to run on, fifteen minutes by ferry. Free to roam; take a picnic, because the cafés are seasonal.
Prams and sauna rules
An adult pushing a pram travels free on HSL, and under-sevens ride free. In public saunas, keep sessions short and children on the lower bench.
