THINGS TO DO
The things worth doing in Saaremaa, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
Kuressaare Castle and its moat on Saaremaa island, Estonia
Kuressaare spa soak
The town has been a spa resort since the 1800s. Arensburg, Grand Rose and Georg Ots all sell day passes.
Cycle the island lanes
Flat, near-empty roads through juniper heath and stone-walled fields. Bike hire is easy in Kuressaare.
Koguva village, Muhu
A near-intact 19th-century stone-and-thatch fishing village, now run as an open-air museum.
Taste the island produce
Island black bread, home-brewed farm beer, smoked fish and juniper, sold at farm shops and Kuressaare market.
Kliff or Sörweköök dinner
Two rural restaurants doing Nordic seasonal cooking away from town, both worth the drive out.
