SPORT & SEASON
Pärnu's sport happens on sand and shallow water, with one top-division football club in town; for top-flight basketball or ice hockey the nearest is Tallinn, about two hours north.
Pärnu JK Vaprus
The town's football club, playing in Estonia's Premium liiga. The season runs March to November and home games are the one reliable spectator sport here; fixtures, kick-off times and ticket details are on the club site.

Beach volleyball on Pärnu beach
Nets go up on the sand for the summer and the courts near the promenade are in use all day through July and August. Joining a game is normal practice; bringing a ball is easier than finding one to hire.
Windsurfing, kitesurfing and SUP in the bay
Pärnu Bay is wide, shallow and reliably windy, which makes it forgiving for anyone learning on a board. Schools and rental stands set up on the beach for the summer only — from October there is nothing operating.

The promenade and the coast road to Valgeranna
The flat run from the beach promenade past Rannapark and out towards Valgeranna is the local running and cycling route, part tarmac and part sand, and busy from first light in summer. Free, and a few kilometres each way.
Winter on the beach
From November the beach empties and turns into a walking and winter-swimming place rather than a sunbathing one, and in colder years the bay freezes. If you are here out of season, this is what Pärnu sport looks like.
