The town market at Suur-Sepa 18, about a kilometre inland from the old town. Meat and fish counters Tue–Thu 08:00–18:00 and Fri–Mon 08:00–16:00, an outdoor produce market Tue–Fri 08:00–15:00, and a supermarket open daily 08:00–21:00. The cheapest food in town by a distance.

The avenue of wooden villas and lime trees running from the old town down to the beach and the Kuursaal — the natural strolling route, and where most of the summer terraces sit. Many of them are summer-only, so check before walking down in November.

Nikolai 32 in the old town: Mon–Thu 11:30–22:00, Fri 11:30–23:00, Sat 09:00–23:00 and Sun 09:00–22:00. A café and kitchen that stays open through the winter, which not everything here does; works for coffee and cake as well as a full plate.

Two habits: buy smoked fish from the market counters rather than off a restaurant menu, and take your main meal as a weekday päevapraad — a fixed-price plate served roughly noon to three at a fraction of the evening price. Both matter most in July, when beachfront prices peak.
