EAT LIKE A LOCAL
Two taverns, two manor kitchens and a village shop is close to the whole story here: eat at the manors or at Altja, buy the rest in Võsu, and do not assume anything is open in the evening out of season.

Altja Kõrts
The thatched tavern in Altja, open every day of the year 12:00–20:00 — which makes it the reliable option out of season. Creamy fish soup, sorrel soup, barley-and-potato mash with mushroom sauce, smoked salmon, schnitzel, bilberry cake, and vegetarian dishes.

Sagadi Manor restaurant
Inside the manor complex run by the state forest service, with a kitchen built around game and forest ingredients. The most formal meal in the park, and convenient because the hotel, hostel, forest museum and a trailhead are all on the same site.

Vihula Manor — Mõisa and Kaval-Antsu
The estate runs three kitchens: Mõisa for Scandinavian-influenced à la carte, a lobby lounge for something casual, and Kaval-Antsu Tavern for Estonian food. Open to day visitors as well as guests; book the à la carte room.

Buy your food in Võsu
Outside the manors and Altja there is almost nothing, and what there is keeps summer hours. Võsu has the shops and the summer cafés, a few hundred metres back from the beach. Stock up there before heading into the forest for the day.
