Viru bog boardwalk
A 3.5 km boardwalk over bog pools with an 11 m viewing tower. The park's signature walk, easy and very popular.

Palmse Manor
A restored baroque manor with parkland, wine cellar and tavern. Open daily May to September, shorter hours in winter.

Käsmu captains' village
The village of captains: white wooden houses, a maritime museum and a boulder-strewn shore walk out to the point.

Thatched net sheds along the shore, a swing on the green, and a tavern doing sprat sandwiches and mulgipuder.

Getting there
Drive from Tallinn
About an hour east on the Narva road, then north. A car is much the easiest way to link the park's scattered sites.
Bus from Tallinn
Coaches on the Tallinn to Rakvere route stop at Viitna and Võsu. From there it is walking, cycling or a local taxi.
Guided day trip
Operators run a Tallinn day loop taking in Viru bog, Palmse and Käsmu. The simplest option without your own car.
When to go
Best time to go
May to September for bog walks, long light and open manor cafes.
Cheapest months
November to March: guesthouses empty and cheap, but only six hours of light in December.
Priciest & busiest
July and August, plus the autumn colour weekends in late September.
If you've got one day
Morning
Drive out early and walk the Viru bog boardwalk before the coaches arrive; climb the tower for the bog-pool view.
Late morning
On to Palmse Manor for the house, the park and the outbuildings around the pond.
Lunch
Eat at the Palmse tavern, or hold out for Altja Kõrts on the coast, which is the better meal.
Afternoon
Coast road to Altja's net sheds, then Käsmu for the maritime museum and the boulder shore.
Evening
Dinner at Vihula Manor, or a guesthouse sauna followed by a very dark, very quiet sky.
Nearby & day trips
Jägala Waterfall
Estonia's highest natural waterfall at 8 m, just west of the park and genuinely dramatic when frozen.
Rakvere
Half an hour southeast: a hilltop castle ruin done up as a hands-on medieval attraction, plus a giant bull statue.
