Baseball is the national argument, and one stadium hosts both sides of it.
Estadio Quisqueya
Licey and Escogido share this ground and split the city between them. The winter league runs October to January, with the playoffs and full houses in January.
Palacio de los Deportes
The capital's basketball tournament fills the arena through the summer months, with imported American players and neighbourhood loyalties. Tickets are inexpensive.
Caribbean Series, February
The regional champions' tournament is played in February and rotates between countries, landing in Santo Domingo every few years. Tickets go quickly when it does.
Canchas and dominoes
Barrio basketball courts run pickup games most evenings, and dominoes is played loudly on folding tables on almost every street. Both free to watch.
