Campsites north of town
Beds are scarce and dear in July; the campsites towards Grenen and the hostel are the affordable options, both a short cycle from the harbour.
What a day costs
DKK 450–800, roughly $65–115: a campsite pitch 100–180, food 150–250 from the supermarket, bike hire around 100 a day.
Train, bus and bicycle
The Skagensbanen line runs from Frederikshavn in under an hour. Everything else is flat cycle path — the whole peninsula is designed around bikes.
Free by day
Grenen, where the Skagerrak meets the Kattegat in visible waves, the migrating dune at Råbjerg Mile, and both coasts of beach. Free shelter sites sit in the plantations.

The working port is ringed with fish shacks and terraces; in summer the quayside is where campers, sailors and day-trippers all end up.
