ON A BUDGET
Expensive to sleep in, cheap to move around, and free to swim in the middle of the harbour.
Colourful Nyhavn harbour houses in Copenhagen
Vesterbro and Nørrebro
Hostels concentrate on Istedgade behind Central Station and across in Nørrebro. Both are walkable to the centre and cheaper for food than Indre By.
What a day costs
DKK 500–850 a day, roughly $70–120: dorm 200–400, groceries and a shawarma 150–250, a 24-hour City Pass around 90.
Bikes and the night metro
A rented bike undercuts transit for most trips, and the driverless metro runs around the clock. A City Pass covering zones one to four includes the airport.
Free by day
The harbour baths at Islands Brygge, Assistens Cemetery where Kierkegaard is buried, the Botanical Garden grounds and a walk through Christiania.
Rådhuspladsen walking tours
Free walking tours form on the city hall square most mornings; afterwards the crowd tends to drift to Jægersborggade or the Reffen street-food yard.
