WITH KIDS
An easy city with small children: flat, compact and largely traffic-free in the centre, with the two big draws — the hilltop zoo and the aquapark — both short bus rides out.
Olomouc Old Town Hall with its Gothic tower above the main square
Zoo Olomouc
On Svatý Kopeček above the city, open 9:00–17:00 year-round; 160 Kč adults, 120 Kč children. Over 400 species, a safari train, a lookout tower, a rope course and playgrounds through the grounds. Leave within two hours of the ticket office closing.
Aquapark Olomouc
Kafkova 526/21 in Slavonín, south of the centre. Indoor and outdoor pool areas, saunas, an activity park and a toddler corner called Akvárko, plus swimming lessons and birthday parties. Hours change by season, so check the day's opening before you set off.
Sluňákov, Horka nad Moravou
Nature education centre on the edge of the Litovelské Pomoraví floodplain forest, north-west of the city. It works by programme rather than museum hours — guided nature walks, family days, workshops on tracks and calls — so look at what is on before you go.
Smetanovy sady and the rozarium
Výstaviště Flora looks after the city's parks, the botanical garden, the rozarium and the collection greenhouses, all in one belt of green just south-east of the old town. The parks are open and free; the greenhouses and rozarium keep their own hours and charge.
Vlastivědné muzeum v Olomouci
Nám. Republiky 5, in the middle of town. Tuesday to Sunday 10:00–18:00, Thursdays to 20:00, closed Monday; 120 Kč full, 60 Kč reduced, 250 Kč family. The permanent nature exhibition is the part that holds children.
