ON A BUDGET
This is a student city with student prices — beds, beer and lunch are all low by Czech standards — and the one thing that decides your daily spend is whether you eat your main meal at midday or in the evening.
Olomouc Old Town Hall with its Gothic tower above the main square
Long Story Short
Design hostel on Koželužská with dorms, pod beds and private rooms, a café bar and a bakery downstairs. Ten minutes' walk from the squares, and the restaurant attached to it is one of the best in Moravia.
Trams and buses (DPMO)
One basic ticket is 25 Kč from a machine, the app or by SMS, valid 40 minutes on weekdays and 60 at weekends; 40 Kč from the driver. A 24-hour ticket is 90 Kč. The old town is walkable, but the zoo and the aquapark are both bus rides.
Olomouc region Card
240 Kč for 48 hours (120 Kč child) or 480 Kč for five days, covering free entry to more than 100 attractions across the region, discounts at 80 more, and free public transport in Olomouc and Jeseník. Only worth it if you are doing several paid sights or a day trip.
The polední menu
On weekdays between roughly 11:00 and 14:00 almost every kitchen, breweries included, puts out a two- or three-course set lunch at a fraction of its evening prices. Eat your main meal then and the evening becomes a beer and a snack.
What a day costs
The fixed numbers: a tram ticket 25 Kč, or 90 Kč for 24 hours; the zoo 160 Kč adult and 120 Kč child; a 48-hour region card 240 Kč. Add a hostel bed and one weekday lunch menu and a day here still lands well under the same day in Prague.
