EAT LIKE A LOCAL
Two price worlds a fifteen-minute walk apart: spa-promenade dining on the river, and the town where everybody who works here actually eats.
T.G. Masaryka and the modern town
The pedestrian street downstream from the colonnades is where residents eat: canteens, bakeries, Vietnamese bistros and the craft beer taps the nightlife page already sends you to. Lunch here costs roughly what it costs anywhere else in Czechia.

Stara Louka - the promenade
The riverside parade of cafes and hotel restaurants between the Market Colonnade and the Grandhotel Pupp. Elegant, slow and priced for guests on a three-week cure; worth one coffee and a look at the room rather than a full dinner.

Restaurant at Hotel Promenada
A family-run hotel right beside the colonnade whose kitchen is the town's most serious - international cooking with a French lean, in a dining room small enough that you should book. This is the one splurge in Vary that is about the food and not the address.

Spa wafers, and what the water costs
Lazenske oplatky - thin round wafers the width of a saucer, embossed and sold warm from stalls along the colonnades - are the local snack. The spring water itself is free; the porcelain cup with the spout in the handle is the part you pay for, and a plastic cup or your own bottle works just as well.
